We’re so pleased to be able to offer the very earliest harvest of 2021, the first flush of the year of the Rohini Tea Estate. Directly sourced from the tea garden in Darjeeling, India at an elevation of about 4400 ft, and grown by farmers Shiv Saria and his son Hrishikesh Saria, this tea is a true delight. With little oxidation, this tea, although technically a black tea, appears like a green or even white tea. The first flush of the year (the earliest spring harvest) is highly prized for the quality of production and unique flavor. The aroma is uniquely Darjeeling, with scents of fruit blossom and honey. It brews a cup with a floral freshness with notes of grapes and apricots, and offers a lush silky texture with a soft, nuanced finish.
We are offering this unique, limited edition selection in a beautiful wooden tea box with a classic metal lid, made in India. The tea box holds 28 grams of this excellent selection, and is a lovely gift for yourself or for the tea lover in your life.
The Tea is also available in our standard tins.
In the words of the farmer: "The long wait after the winter dormancy is over. The first leaves have started to arrive and the tea, as usual, is profound. First flush teas have very prominent fresh flavor. The teas are very mildly oxidized and very delicately processed to induce minimal damage. All oxidation is natural and over night, with nothing being induced forcefully except some few rounds of hand bruising to develop some flavor. The teas are very light on the palate, with a mouthful flavor and complete with clean notes and a smooth finish without any hint of astringency. “Jethi Kupi” is a word from the Manipurii dialect and it means “jasmine flower”. “
To brew the best cup:
