Early Grey black tea is one of the most popular selections in the world. This distinct selection is made with Chinese black tea and naturally derived bergamot oil. Bergamot is a fragrant citrus fruit, a variety of orange, most likely a hybrid between lemons and bitter orange. Start your morning with this bright, malty selection paired with fruit and scones for a classic breakfast.

Bergamot has been used to flavor English teas since at least 1824, with early advertisements from Jackson’s of Picadilly offering “Earl Grey’s Mixture” having been published in 1928. It is most often believed that the Earl Grey the blend is named after is Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, the prime minister of the United Kingdom during the 1930’s, but other evidence points to the name referring to his son Henry George Grey, 3rd Earl Grey.

The amber colored liquor has bright, citrusy aromas. The palate is complex, with a clean finish. The bergamot flavor is forward, rounded out by the rich, malty flavors.
