Mokalbari Estate Assam STGFOP1
Regular price $21.25Grown at the historic Mokalbari Tea Estate, located on the southern banks of the Brahmaputra River in Upper Assam, India, this single-origin tea draws its character from rich alluvial soil and a warm, humid subtropical climate. The name Mokalbari combines “mokāl” (meaning tall bamboo) and “bāri” (garden), reflecting the estate’s lush, biodiverse heritage and legacy of quality tea cultivation since the late 19th century.
This premium orthodox black tea, harvested during the prized second flush, features bold, twisted leaves generously laced with golden tips—the delicate, unopened buds. The golden hue of these tips results from careful withering and oxidation, enhancing their appearance and adding depth to the cup.
Expect a full-bodied, rich, malty liquor with warm honeyed notes, hints of caramel, stone fruit, and a touch of spice. The finish is often described as wine-like, with a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. A bright, coppery-amber cup releases a complex aroma—sweet and spicy, layered with floral and dried fruit nuances.
