Taiping Houkui  is an incredibly unique Chinese green tea from the Anhui Province, located in eastern China. The name, Taiping Houkui, translates to “Monkey King”. The cultivar has been grown in the region since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and has been served to nobility since the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912).

The dry leaves are very long, thing, and flattened with a dark, forest green color. They have a lightly spiced, fruity aroma. Once brewed, the leaves retain their color and shape, while giving off a rich, toasty, sweet, grassy fragrance.

The liquor is pale yellow, with a delicate, rich aroma. The palate is sweet, rich, and toasty, with a ripe finish. Grassy top notes lead into mid tones of toasted rice, spice, and granite, ending with a light fruity end note.
